Modern Art. The Book of Art. Volume 8.
David Sylvester (1965)
'The Abstract Expressionists who emerged in America in the 1940s took their outsider status for granted. For them it was no longer a question of thumbing their nose at established values. They simply chose to ignore the outside world, they were content to find their audience in one another.'

Colour painting
Rough brushwork and bright colours. Using flowers to get ideas for colour. The black outline of the flower works quite well with the black border
Abstract piece found online
Found online. I'm drawn to this because of the colours. I particularly like the darker blues and oranges. The website doesn't name the artist.
Writing on website - 'If there is one sort of art that will usually be well-known, it is colourful abstract art. Abstract art is fantastic for decorating the house simply because it does not make any certain assertion, just provides a colourful and rich backdrop.'

Hockney creates art on an IPad
In 2008, David Hockney began to use apps on his iphone to paint and recently began to use an ipad. He has embraced new technology. Although it is very clever to use the technology in this way, I am more interested in the colour in these pictures
Black ink on paper
Quick ink piece I did after seeing Hockney's work. I wanted to use long flower stems. I'm interested in colour so this will be the only black and white piece I will produce

Mini exhibtion
On the 5th of March we are hosting a mini exhibiton to help us to prepare for the degree show. We each must exhibit a piece of work. I am going to work with my found palette and see where it takes me.
David Hockney - Salts Mill
David Hockney is a well known artist, especially in Saltaire, Yorkshire. I recently went to visit some of his work in Salts Mill. I'm interested in his simple lines and the movement of his work
Found object - pallet
I found this industrial wooden delivery pallet outside of my living accomadation the other day. I was impressed with the marks and stains on the wood. Finding this object has helped me to progress. I am now going to look at making the unobvious obvious or making the unnoticed noticed.
