A few months
ago, I found a wooden delivery pallet outside my living accommodation. While
many others would saunter past leaving it unnoticed, I saw something exciting
and attention-grabbing. I saw a strong structure and spectacular markings that
had been stained into the wood. There is a beauty in most objects that go
unnoticed every day. It is almost as if I feel sorry for the objects. I yearn
for them to be noticed.
I turn
industrial objects, in this case, found wooden pallets, into a piece of art
work. The bright paint covers the pallets quite lightly in places leaving
colour but making sure that the stunning natural marks are still visible.
The word
homophone is used to describe words that are pronounced the same but have
different meanings, origins or spelling. This is where I got my idea for
‘Palette and Pallet.’ One is used by an artist and the other originally used to
move heavy goods. My work has given both these objects a new reason for
existing; their useful significance has disappeared, they have a new title and
have become a piece of art.
