 Beautiful wooden piece from Andre. While the wood looks relatively new and clean, there are still some beautiful natural marks on the surface.

Doris Salcedo - Artist

There were an impressive 1600 chairs used in this piece of work by Doris Salcedo.

She is one of my 10 artists/articles in my visual bibliography.

Like myself, Salcedo uses wooden found objects because it is a material that really shows off wear and tear. The scuffs, scratches and weather damage cannot be hidden very easily on wood.

History is very important and excites a lot of people. An unknown history could be even more exciting; it lets people's imaginations work. A found object should show history; an unknown history that most probably will never be fully discovered.

I find my wooden pallets all over, usually abandoned at the side of a road or leaning against a building. There is no telling where this object has been or where it will end up after its gallery experience.

I quite like this one for its simplicity. The planks of woods are all quite evenly spaced making it easy on the eye.

Pallets everywhere

Since I started using paletts in my work, I seem to be seeing them everywhere. Maybe, I'm not the only one that can see the objects fine qualities.

Richard Mutt - Justify my work

'Mr Mutt's fountain is not immoral, that is absurd, no more than a bathtub is immoral. It is a fixture that you see everyday in plumbers shop windowss. Whether Mr Mutt with his own hands made the fountain has no importance. He chose it. He took an ordinary article of life, placed it so that its useful significance disappeared under the new title and point of view - created a new thought for that object.'

The last sentence of this statement is exactly what I have done with my pallets. The pallet's useful significance has disappeared and under the work title 'Palette and Pallet', there is now a new thought for the object.

David Hockney - The Art of Seeing

Last night BBC1 aired 'David Hockney, The Art of Seeing.' This was an interview with Hockney, held by Andrew Marr. The programme discussed the artist's newest exhibition; 'A Bigger Picture.'

Hockney is one of the first big artists to use an Apple iPad to create art. This exhibiton is based on the seasons. His bright computerised works fill the large room. They are bright and make a bold statement. One can't help but be caught up in the colour.

Hockney speaks about nature and the seasons with such passion. One line I felt I must quote was this; "Look harder, it's all still there..It's very very beautiful."
